New Forest Activities – Transfer to Transform Case Study
Transfer to Transform has been instrumental in helping smaller businesses across the Solent region in upskilling their staff during a period of difficulty for many sectors. One such business is New Forest Activities.
New Forest Activities have enrolled six employees on apprenticeships, ranging from Business Administration to Outdoor Activity Instructor standards. The New Forest Activities team use apprenticeships to get their staff motivated and trained during their quieter times of the year, in order to have them trained and adding greater value to the business during their peak seasons.
New Forest Activities decided to put in an application for receiving funding from the Transfer to Transform scheme after hearing about the scheme from their training provider, DA Training and Consultancy. “DA Training and Consultancy suggested that we could utilise the scheme to help support our planned growth during the COVID-19 pandemic. Without Transfer to Transform, we could not have afforded to take on new staff on a full-time basis during this period”.
It is important to remember that applying for the Transfer to Transform scheme during the lockdown period has not only benefited New Forest Activities as a business, but also the individuals that make up the organisation. The apprentices that are now working towards their qualifications are able to develop their skills, mindsets and experience levels as a result of the scheme and give them a leg-up in the early stages of their careers. Ellen (aged 19), New Forest Activities’ Outdoor Activity Instructor apprentice told us:
“The apprenticeship has given me the confidence to take on more and more responsibility within the organisation. I’ve now moved into a permanent full-time role, which I am really enjoying”.
New Forest Activities have been so impressed with their experience with apprentices that they plan to recruit another in the early stages of 2021. “(The Apprenticeship Hub) seem very efficient and we understand from conversations with (DA Training and Consultancy) that Sara (Apprenticeship Hub Adviser) has been really supportive of what we are trying to do.”
